brushstroke – “Freeze”

/

A soulful and suave success, “Freeze” is a new track full of mood and melodic infection. “Freeze” comes from the artist brushstroke, the solo project of Philadelphia-based musician Eoin Murphy. Aesthetically, Murphy shows a sound steeped in soul and R&B, with a hypnotic psych-tinged electronic appeal evident in the lush synth/key tones and melodic twists/turns. Just prior to the two-minute mark, the track transitions to a lovely, bouncy whimsy — punctuated by a catchy, soulful “with me,” vocal punctuation. “Freeze” hypnotizes with its firm initial aesthetic, maintaining its allure with a series of catching and creative hooks. Murphy’s captivatingly suave vocal presence converges successfully throughout with these smart production choices.

The artist describes the release as “a song about the ups and downs of falling in love with someone, while also questioning the relationship.”

“Freeze” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of October 2020’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Soul.
