Released today, “Lonely Buddy” is a gripping track from Hawker and Sophiee Winter. The duo conjure a dreamy blend of rock and pop elements, sounding parts Beach House in Winter’s commanding vocal lead, especially. The chugging guitars and confident vocal presence leads to the excellent “lonely buddy,” hook, which exudes a twangy charm amidst wordless, serene backing vocals. Hawker and Sophiee Winter certainly have crafted a memorable love song, complete with a memorably, hooky pull and heartfelt lyrical pull. The use of pipa, a Chinese instrument, adds a uniquely affecting appeal, too. “Lonely Buddy” is on repeat for me.
