An exploration of society’s addiction to social media, “Apex” is a consuming success from Berlin-based singer, songwriter, and producer Melis. Relaxed keys and a driving percussive flair make for a bedroom-set vein of dream-pop, alongside lushly riveting vocals that show an engrossing yearning. The two-minute mark shows a lovely meshing of spacey synths with a budding backing frequency. The whirring synths join beautifully alongside the vocals as the “have we reached the apex?” hook envelops.
