Los Saints – “As Bad As The First”

/

The jangly, yearning “As Bad As The First” is a stirring success from San Diego-based quartet Los Saints. The hypnotic jangle of guitars meshed with tortured-sounding vocals to conjure a sound in the realm of The Smiths, certainly, though also with a modern punch. Gradually escalating guitars and percussion approach the one-minute mark, with the haunting croon shortly thereafter — “I know where you are,” — sending chills. Understated though with a clear, passionate emotive yearning, “As Bad As The First” easily consumes.

The band writes: “This song was made while reminiscing on an old but familiar feeling that I used to have in my school days, ache. Ache is a feeling that is purposely omitted most strongly in verse 2 and is contrasted by a “sappy”, yet upbeat, chorus.”

“As Bad As The First” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of August 2020’ Spotify playlist.
