Rio Tigre – “Olympiades”

/

First catching my ear with the captivating, atmospheric “Tornado” in March, Rio Tigre return with another gem in “Olympiades.” The effort masterfully uses vocal samples, of varying pitches, amidst intense synth backbones to establish a gripping initial pull. The intense synth-forward sound fades in favor of more serene piano around 01:30, gradually and seamlessly growing back into the initial vocal sample-laden backing, following a brief yet effective vocal lead. The band’s fifth single is one that shows Rio Tigre as one of the more exciting acts emerging.

The track was crafted while “transitioning from Paris to New York,” per the band. “The acid synthesizers and robotic voices are replaced by warm instruments and voices, giving a glimpse of what it felt like to start a new life far from home,” they write.

“Olympiades” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of June 2020’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Electronic.
