“Lux Luv” is a superb track released today from Favours, a duo from Toronto comprised of Alex Zen and Jacq Andrade. Murky vocals and prancing synths establish a mysterious soundscape to start, with guitar twangs sporadically emerging alongside a dual-vocal twist. The chorus emerges as a melodic gem, especially as both vocals converge past the one-minute mark. The duo cite new-wave and post-punk as stylistic influences, noting OMD and John Maus specifically. Favours achieve a gripping, darkly melodic soundscape as well. I’m also reminded fondly of fellow Canadian act TOPS, especially during this excellent hook. “Lux Luv” has me excited for what’s next from Favours.
