“Clipper Ship” is a melodic track from Blue Plutos’ forthcoming album, Come Back This Way. As they have in the past with tracks like “Want to Want” and “New King in Town,” the Boston-based act show a knack for gripping, evolving song structures that intertwine rock, folk, and psych-friendly components. “Clipper Ship” continues that eclectic, capricious charm. 01:13 sees a hooky vocal ascension following a breezy first minute, leading to an infectious synth-laden hook — “Peering out of vacant eyes / You’re my favorite wasted time.” A bouncy guitar-forward bridge follows, with the hook re-emerging at 02:40 following a boisterously fun vocal build. Blue Plutos continue to strut a fun, melodic nature while still showing the importance of unpredictable twists and turns.
