Releasing ahead of TARA’s debut LP later this year, “Oceans” is a beautiful single that expands from a dreamy simmer into shoegaze-y textural bliss. Previously featured tracks like “Second Guess” and “Wander” showed the Brooklyn-based band in full command of their shoegaze-laden, dream-pop aesthetic. ‘Oceans” certainly continues that confidence, in newly invigorated form. The track succeeds in the contrasts between lusher bass-fronted movements and those with waves of guitars; the vocals excel regardless of circumstance. The vocal emergence approaching 03:30 works with especially momentous appeal alongside the driving percussion, with shades of Slowdive emerging in the subsequent bass line. “Oceans” is another success from TARA, via a forthcoming debut LP showing ample promise.
