The evolving and melodic “The World Has Always Been Too Cruel” is a nostalgic success from Qvilava, the project of Spanish multi-instrumentalist and composer Pablo García. Bouncy keys and fluttering guitars complement a pop-friendly vocal delivery to start. Backing organs and eventual guitar twangs converge for a delightful sound, leading to an excellent second half. The two-minute mark commences a fantastic, atmospheric showing — with tender guitars and enveloping synths evoking an ’80s power anthem, in the best way. “The World Has Always Been Too Cruel” succeeds melodically and atmospherically, producing a yearning sense of nostalgia within an original hook-minded construction.
García writes the following regarding the track’s themes:
“The song has a huge nostalgic vibe, not only in its sound, but also in its lyrical content. The World… talks about how people in privileged contexts are often unavailable to face small problems, so when big issues come, we feel nostalgic and dumb for not appreciating what we had in the first place, often leading to depression, metal health issues and the feelings of general unhappiness and underachieving that connect with big part of the millennial generation. It´s written way before, but sounds really appropriate for the current time.”
