“Lungs” is a stirring, expansive rocker from The Mighty Orchid King, written about the band’s experiences in the Extinction Rebellion, a global environmental movement. Eco-anxiety is effectively conveyed from the get-go: “I cut you down so I can read / We gather round the fire in your belly.” Intricate rhythms and prog-friendly guitar tones permeate throughout. A vibrant rhythm section emerges alongside soaring vocals as the powerful chorus hits: “We cut open the Lungs of the Land / Looking for fragments of golden air.”
The track exudes an anthemic quality in the chorus especially, with all forces — from vocals to the bustling rhythms and interweaving guitars — succeeding in their interplay. The “orchid. power!” repetition approaching the four-minute also plays with considerably enjoyable fervor. Fans of rock with psych-friendly and progressive influence are very likely to enjoy this rising act and “Lungs.”
