Inspired by the David Lynch movie of the same name, “Blue Velvet” is a twangy, hypnotic groover from New Jersey-based singer/songwriter Machine Idle (Ryan Romanowski). Dubbed by the artist as “the most Beach Boys thing I’ve ever made and might ever make,” the track also features a video with lovely collage art. The vocals emerge alongside lone acoustics to start, quickly enhanced by twangy island-set guitars and gentle rhythms. “Blue Velvet” shows an atmosphere with tranquil intentions, rather than what one would expect of Lynchian darkness, though that closing synth tone does tout some Badalamenti vibes…
