Charleston-based artist and activist Strom McCallum makes his music debut with the consuming “Baby Belle,” an alt-country track with hypnotic appeal. The track is the first from McCallum’s upcoming self-titled LP, out later this year. “It’s about a woman I love who almost died this year and what she means to me,” McCallum writes. Murky vocals sit alongside shuffling guitars and percussion, with twangy textural beauty developing amidst lyrical sentiments reflecting true love and the fear of loss. Vocals subside around the mid-section as the guitars assume a graceful emphasis, before the track’s second half intertwines the vocals and overall twanginess for continued audible comfort.
