Strawberry Generation – “When You Were Here And I Was Sad”

/

“When You Were Here And I Was Sad” is a lovely new track from Strawberry Generation. Quaintly chugging verses build toward a punchy, distorted chorus — aesthetically remind of a fun cross between Smith Westerns and Kero Kero Bonito. The band formed in Providence, RI, with members originally from various parts of the world (Singapore, Belgium, and the USA). The name ‘Strawberry Generation’ derives from a Chinese expression that mocks today’s young generations for “being too soft and coddled.” It’s an apt choice, as the band projects a wistful, youthful sound that sounds lovably carefree.

Look for the band’s upcoming album Afloat, written and recorded in Providence, RI, while mixed and produced in Singapore with members of Sobs and Cosmic Child.

“When You Were Here And I Was Sad” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of February 2020’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Rock.
