Showing a unique, murky electro-pop sound with industrial flair, “Wide Open Spaces” is a new track from Socialbends, the project of singer/songwriter Tim Gonzalez. Born in Brooklyn and presently based in Los Angeles, Gonzalez cites influences such as ’80s punk, new wave, ’80s trip-hop, and contemporary electronic — all heard in this track to some extent, and throughout Socialbends’ new album The Only Ones. The multi-vocal layering during “wide open spaces,” section shows a haunting, passionate sound. The vocal presence and dark synths converge for an eerily effective pull, aesthetically resembling Crystal Castles. Fans of uniquely atmospheric and emotive electro-pop should definitely seek out The Only Ones.
