“Midnight” is a track released today from Sam Nichol, a Nashville-based artist. A burst of guitars at 01:28 coincides with a rising vocal presence, projecting a brightly melodic pull. A lusher, guitar-driven bridge plays nicely around the three-minute mark, after the chorus re-emerges. From here, Nichol’s fierce vocal presence and escalating guitar-driven fury reminds fondly of Grizzly Bear. The track plays and finishes with satisfactory melodic engagement.
Nichol elaborates more on the track below:
midnight seeks to convey the feeling of the insomniac who finds magic in the haze of a late night. unable to sleep, but fixated on the beauty of the quiet. when the world is at it’s lowest, the high of the night rises above the noise. the patter of a 2 AM spring shower, the slow rolling of streetlights on an empty interstate, and the smile of the moon as she looks down on the earth all give insight to the music.
