The first of a string of upcoming singles from New York-based artist Luca, “Hold Up” is a smooth and soulful success. A lush bass line and chilled-out guitar progression lead as clap-laden percussion appears sporadically. A mellow vocal line repeats “hold up,” as the track’s hypnotic feel becomes firmly established. Heightened vocal pitch around 01:30 signals the start of a striking production showing, with the “I do too much,” vocal reverb leading into a spacious conclusion with yearning strings. “Hold Up” is a hypnotic success from Luca, an artist who appears to have a big 2020 on the way.

“Hold Up” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of December 2019’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Indie Funk, Soul, and R&B.
