“I Thought By Now” is an affecting song from singer/songwriter Nick Nash. The Nashville-based artist is a first generation college graduation from a long line of farmers. He walked away from various music opportunities, working presently as a corporate lawyer. He still crafts heartfelt music, with a recent aim being to tell his story to his daughters.
The “people keep on telling me,” chorus rides with yearning sentimentality, reminding fondly of Wilco’s ballads. Nash notes that the track was “written about achieving what you thought would make you happy in life but still realizing that no matter what you have you can still feel small.” The “you can have everything but still feel like nothing,” punctuation at the end of the chorus is a testament to this theme, followed nicely by tender strings around the 01:40 mark. “I Thought By Now” is a nice showing from Nick Nash.
