Chamomile Castle – “Candles”

/

“Candles” shows a melodic form of jangly rock from Chamomile Castle, a band based in Leeds, England. As their debut track, it’s fun to envision what’s next for this promising act. “Candles” exhibits a confident, well-produced vein of jangly rock that’s concise at under 3 minutes, though never wastes a moment melodically. The “maybe I wanted it too much,” verses around 01:20 present a more vocal-fronted section, reminding of Grizzly Bear, tonally. This section does well in contrasting somewhat against the jangly, hook-forward section, making them stand out even more. “Candles” is a winning, hypnotic debut from Chamomile Castle, fit for autumnal listening (“now that the leaves are brown.”).

“Candles” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2019’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Jangle Rock.
