Chicago-based singer/songwriter Bryan Away, the recording alias of Elliot Korte, crafts an intimately effective sound on new track “Give In,” off the 5-track EP of the same name. “Give In” is fairly sparse on instrumentation, emphasizing creeping vocals with lush accompaniments beyond some sections, where an ominous orchestral creep of sorts clangs over the vocals. The feeling of impending momentum is apparent throughout. Thematically, the release pursues “personal themes of loss, longing, and isolation,” with influences including Deerhoof and Nick Drake. Based on this quaint yet engaging track, I’m looking forward to hearing more from Korte.
