The shimmering, twinkling “Best Friend” is a delight from Brooklyn duo Boyfriend Genes. Boyfriend Genes is comprised of brothers Thomas and Travis Shaver, who honed their multi-instrumental abilities growing up with the aid of their father’s music store. Their live show, established this year, provides considerably immersion with custom visuals and lighting. “Best Friend” itself is a great showing of the project’s melodic smarts, projecting a melodic vein of jangly psych-pop. Regarding the track, the band writes: “We wanted to explore what it means to have your identity subconsciously shaped overtime by social interactions.” Released today, “Best Friend” also feels like a perfect fit for easing into the weekend, opening with the lyrics “everybody’s waiting for the weekend.”
