Toy Cities – “Apparitions”

/

Releasing this week, “Apparitions” is a melodic track from Toy Cities’ forthcoming EP Digital Waves. The Brooklyn act blend a love for post-punk, new wave, and jangle-pop of the ’80s and ’90s. “Apparitions” recalls acts like New Order, as a result — with buzzing synths and clanging guitars combining with melodic, fairly nonchalant vocals for a driving feel. The pulsing hook just past the one-minute turn exudes an authentic ’80s nostalgia and yearning, as captured by artists like Twin Shadow. Throughout the track, the bouncy synths and guitars converge for a fully formed, melodic feel. Look for the Digital Waves EP this fall.

“Apparitions” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of September 2019’ Spotify playlist.
