Getaway Dogs show a lush yet invigorating sound on “Sawtooth (I’ve Been Wrong Before),” the latest track release from the project. Fronted by Brazilian-American, Santa Cruz-based songwriter Kai Killion, Getaway Dogs touts a vibrant and bustling sound — steeped in everything from bedroom-pop and indie-rock to bossa nova, Tropicália, and soul.
Getaway Dogs will be releasing their full-length album BELONG tomorrow, on 9/27. “Sawtooth (I’ve Been Wrong Before)” shows what to anticipate — specifically, an enjoyably evolving track with eclectic flavoring. The jazzy keys/guitars just past the one-minute mark combines with illuminated vocals to produce a striking moment, with tranquil vocals navigating seamlessly throughout. The track concludes just as enjoyably, with more subdued guitars and yearning vocals accompanied by lingering, nocturnal brass.
Another track from the band released a couple months ago, “Only in Retrospect,” showcases a hypnotic, developing sound more in the reverberating rock vein. This one is equally easy to get lost in as “Sawtooth (I’ve Been Wrong Before)” — with a distinctively separate stylistic pursuit. I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s release of BELONG, for certain.
