The beautiful dream-pop track “I Am A Road” is a striking showing from Lorelei, the Australian duo of Claudia Schmidt and Arlen McCarthy. The track comes via an upcoming EP, recorded at Parliament Studios with Lachlan Mitchell (The Jezabels). Also on the track are fellow Sydney musicians: Alex Knight (Brightness) on drums, Pat McCarthy (City Rose) on bass, and Ryan Adamson (Divebell, Hotel) on synth.
A crisp-clear guitar tone starts the effort, fading in favor of Schmidt’s sweeping vocal presence, which glides over a gentle bass line and lightly tugging synth pad. The trickling guitar approaching the one-minute mark is gracefully incorporated, reminding very fondly of Beach House. “I Am A Road” is a hypnotic gem of a track, and introduces me to a promising project I’ll certainly be anticipating material from.
