JW Francis – “Too Fast”

/

“Too Fast” is barely over a minute-and-a-half long, though does well in that time to establish a suave, moody rock aesthetic with vintage yearning from JW Francis, a 25-year-old singer/songwriter born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, then raised in Paris, France, and now based in NYC. The “going too fast,” vocal repetition is later accompanied by a series of tender guitar lines at the 51-second mark. A faint string-like pad lingers in the background, with the track concluding abruptly. Aesthetically this sits somewhere between Deerhunter’s confident conciseness and Ariel Pink’s vein of throwback pop — definitely something I’m enjoying, making this a new project I’ll anticipate further releases from.

“Too Fast” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of May 2019’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Indie Rock.
