“Last 9” is a track off Hungry Hands’ new album Clear Lens, channeling a mixture of thunderous alternative-rock and Beatlesesque vocal melodies. The band, which formed in 2008 in Brooklyn, is the project of JJ Byars, alongside numerous friends that are active in the Brooklyn DIY rock/punk scene. Hungry Hands’ debut album Plumb Restless released to praise in 2013, with single “Highline” earning a spot in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5. Now, six years later, Hungry Hands have released their sophomore album, Clear Lens, on Great Shapes Records. “Last 9” does well in showing the band’s climactic, rock-forward guitar work, as well as their fondness for accessibly hooky vocal melodies.
