UK guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Will Newman impresses on new track “Bite My Lip,” touting an aesthetic that successfully merges several stylistic influences. There’s a shoegaze-y feel apparent in the gliding guitars and serene vocals, while still retaining a clear-sounding mode of production and contagious melody — aesthetically comparable to Wild Nothing, The War on Drugs, and The Radio Dept., the latter comparison especially evident during the “picture on my phone,” interlude. Newman’s vocals are accompanied reflectively by Sophia Lyons here, adding depth to the already-engrossing soundscape. Per the artist, the track is “about a hazy night with someone, the early stages before you know you like each other and there’s a lot of back and forth and gameplaying. About finding someone attractive but finding it hard to look at them cause you’re intimidated by their aura.” Chilled-out vibes tend to be a staple of Newman’s material. We look forward to hearing more from Will and his new EP, out later this year.
