The duo of Chris Walker and Tim Gibbon comprise the act La Palma, whose self-titled debut album recently released. Working between Washington, DC and Philly, the collaborators self-produced and self-released the album, a showcase in very melodic psychedelia that would sound apt on a sunny beach, with its shimmering production and jumpy guitar lines. The experimental aspects of “Plum” — and especially the layered conclusion — remind of acts as varied as Animal Collective and Sun City Girls. Both atmosphere and sun-shining melody are valued components. Efforts like “Plum” and “One Foot In” sound timeless in feel — blending together ’60s psych-pop sentiments with a modern psych-friendly indie-pop sound.
