So So Sun – “Leave the House

//

Hailing from South East England, So So Sun are a duo whose new single “Leave the House” is a thoroughly consuming showcase in lushly moving melodic escalation. Soft guitars and a drip-drop percussion starts, the brass engagement at the 30-second mark hinting at coming growth. As the one-minute mark comes around, there’s a likeness to Andrew Bird and Sufjan Stevens in growing vocal emotion and meticulously crafted build-up. The second half sees a whirring synth arp assume solidification in the background, as strings emerge as a spine-chilling component prior to the brass-led rise. “Leave the House” is a moving, well-crafted success.

The band elaborates on the track’s meaning and lovely message: “‘Leave the House’ was inspired by a close friend who struggles with agoraphobia and it is about the complications of functioning healthily with the symptoms of mental health. Our song aims to encourage people to build and re-build relationships instead of creating walls.”

“Leave the House” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of February 2019’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Indie Folk.
