Chris Robley released the track “Straight White Male” today, continuing a gripping vein of songwriting that first impressed me over a decade ago. Aesthetically, the track pursues a peppy vein of electro-pop, accompanied by soaring vocals that both lead and provide backing adornments. The various vocal layers provide a psych-friendly feel. The track was composed during the confirmation hearings for Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, providing commentary on the nature of politicians lacking in diversity, and thus not being able to adequately represent a diverse nation. Robley’s press page for the track goes into further detail. Look for more releases from Robley throughout the year.
