“Snowfox” is a track released today from OUTER, a rapidly rising Belgian act. The track recently premiered with Le Soir, Belgium’s leading newspaper. The icy atmosphere throughout “Snowfox” is captivating. A haunting vocal melody and climactic piano leads the arsenal to begin. Haunting strings emerge at 01:39, with the undercurrent of keys and click-clacking percussion adding to the gripping vocal-less atmosphere. The consuming vocal presence, wintry use of keys, and weaving rhythmic additions make for a very striking success.
Thematically, “Snowfox” interprets the story of George Orwell’s 1984 — conveying a similarly dark and dystopian future, which at times seems like it’s moving closer. The vocal melody and lyrics reflects the protagonist, who gets increasingly optimsitic towards the end, while the music (representing ‘community’) becomes “harder and darker.” This story and contradiction are visualized in the abstract video – seen above – by Bert Juliaan.
