Peyote Ugly – “Jackdaw”

//

Seattle trio Peyote Ugly produce a psych-friendly sound steeped in hypnotic guitars and synths. “Jackdaw” is the opening track off their recently released EP of the same name, streaming in full below. It’s a great introduction to the act’s sound, the initial verses projecting placid guitars over a driving synth reverberation. The chorus hits just after the two-minute mark, the uptick in vocal melody and synth involvement here giving off a vibe enjoyably reminiscent of Tame Impala. At over six minutes long, this track is a hypnotic journey, with its final two minutes especially showcasing some excellent guitar work that soars over a steady synth-laden backdrop. “Jackdaw” is exceedingly easy to get lost in, and a great opener for an impressive EP release.

“Jackdaw” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of December 2018’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Indie Rock.
