Elegant Elephant are a band from Stockholm, Sweden, formed in early 2017. They recently released their first single “Cogwheel,” a fun and melodic success that reminds of a cross between ’90s Brit-pop and modern indie psych-rock. The initial verses bear a likeness to early Blur in the enthusiastic guitar tones and suave vocal approach, the fuzzy hook at the one-minute mark standing out especially. 02:21 onward brings forth some striking tonal shifts, casting a fairly ominous feel with ample percussive fervor. It’s a beautifully unsettling interlude that leads seamlessly back into the catchy, Brit-pop-like sounds of the beginning. I’m digging this band’s sound quite a bit.
