“Hermano” is a beautifully emotive piece of jangly rock from Space Phase, the project of Rex Pax, a musician from Columbia, Maryland. Born in Puerto Rico and then moving to Maryland at age five, Rex has been recording music in his bedroom since midway through high school. Now, at age 23, “Hermano” showcases his talents as a musician and songwriter. Rex touts a melancholic vocal quiver reminiscent of Ed Droste or Morrissey, which goes exceedingly well with the nocturnal, murky guitar work. The chorus sees his vocals escalate to beautiful heights – especially during the “I’m afraid,” admittance. “Hermano” is a gorgeous piece of songwriting from a very promising artist.
