Mustardmind – “Saving Face”

/

Mustardmind are an act from Williamsburg, Brooklyn, who have been drawing praise in the NYC rock scene for several years, particularly after the 2016 release of their Peep EP. Early next year, the band will be releasing a new EP. Just-released tracks “Bad Juju” and “Saving Face” provide a peek at their evolving sound. The latter is a particularly memorable effort that starts with erupting guitars, falls back into a lush psych-laden single guitar lead, and then returns to the blistering feel of the introduction just after the three-minute mark. There’s ample tonal variety throughout, the band cohesively juggling spacey psych-guitar with more erupting alternative. By all indications, their forthcoming EP should be full of similarly charismatic songwriting.

“Saving Face” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of October 2018’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Indie Rock 2018.
