“Likely Story” is a new track from Trevor Forrest, the Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter who impressed last year with the spacey, funk-tinged “Countless Ways“. “Likely Story”, his first release this year, begins with a deep atmosphere; Forrest’s yearning and soulful vocals are lifted alongside a lush synth pad. The entry of gentle guitars and percussion around the 40-second mark helps it shift into second gear, with the vocals emerging as more of an emphasis on their own at the one-minute point. The majority that follows is a masterful showing of atmosphere and vocal chops, showing a natural evolution from “Countless Ways” and its immediacy. It’s exciting to see Forrest’s talent as a songwriter continue to grow.
