Headphone Hair, the project of Oakland-based Ian Walters, impressed early this year with “Wanna Be Alone“. While that release showed more understated yearning, “A Little Color” packs a more pulsating and colorful synth-pop demeanor. Walters’ impressive vocal range is also on display, ranging from lushness to more high-pitched emotional pleas (01:50). Stylistically, the approach is reminiscent of Ice Choir‘s knack for effervescent, ’80s-laden synth-pop anthems. Headphone Hair continues to impress as a project with melodic whimsy and sparking synth-laden allure.
