Paper Hawk – “Trails”

/

Brighton alt-folk duo Paper Hawk just released their 4-track EP The Tide today, touting a gorgeous folk-led sound with gentle acoustics and beautifully understated vocals. The duo’s songs have a knack of building up from quaint beginnings into melodically empowering movers, especially evident on opening track “Trails”. A faint synth flicker and gentle acoustics lead into a haunting vocal performance, with effervescent synth pads and key-laden twinkles emerging shortly thereafter. It ultimately builds, after the three-minute mark, to a rousing performance with electric guitars and added intricacy. Percussion emerges in the final minute to help move things along. It’s a moving, successful effort, just like other gems on the release, like the serene “Northern Sky” and dual-vocal success “Written in the Lines”.
