Paris-based quartet Pampa Folks first grabbed me with the track “Blind Silhouettes” in December, touting a mixture of a melodic lushness and Spaghetti-western guitars. Pampa Folks’ continue their versatile sound on new track “Here I Am”, leading to a soaring hook at 00:55 — “you got me crazy in your arms,” — where buzzing guitars soar alongside perky vocals. The halted “tell me what to look for,” bit at 01:53 provides a great bit of melodic variation, to keep things interesting and maintain the momentum of that central hook. Look out for the group’s forthcoming full-length South by West on June 1st on iTunes.
