Norwegian alt-rock group Mountain Cloth impress throughout new album Haircutter, released on April 6th. The release’s sound pays homage to alternative sounds of the ’90s and ’00s, with Modest Mouse, The Wrens, and Slint as decent points of comparison. In general though, the band unleashes an energy all their own, evident from the get-go with opening track “Get Paid to the Sea”. It’s a concise effort, as is often the case with the act throughout the release, successfully pursuing a vein of Wire-like conciseness. After a creaky beginning with not much more beyond vocals, brisk guitars kick in at 00:41, with the following minute doing enough in terms of infectious captivation and convincing energy to intrigue listeners to keep going, which they should:
