The warmly embracing vocal tone throughout “Girl We’re Gonna Die” – reminiscent of Jim James – provides an interesting contrast with the impending-doom lyrics, vowing initially that “girl, we are gonna die today. I can see you don’t believe me, but it’s true.” The hook – “give me just one taste,” – offers reassurance in promoting a bond that’s melodic and charismatic. The bridge at 02:13 is peppy and superb as well, with an organ and crisp bass leading the way. It’s a captivating piece of songwriting on all levels from Ghost of Belle Starr, hailing from Aarhus, the second-largest city in Denmark.
Look out for the band’s debut album Forgiveness Flows, releasing on May 5th.
