“406” is a haunting new track from Toronto six-piece Century Thief. Twinkling keys and a quick acoustical arpeggio complements an ominous increasing tone, not distant from the aesthetic of Sufjan Stevens. The dual-layered vocal presence emerges close to the one-minute mark, projecting a confident and strong melody that rouses interest. “I can’t stop thinking about you,” the vocals eventually yearn, with a stirring brass accompaniment – and a dazzling woodwind around the three-minute mark. The final minute or so is a culmination of the group’s wide instrumental arsenal, transforming into full-on orchestral prowess on this gem of a track.
