Carla Stark’s inspiring new track “Start Starting” touts a perky beginning with smooth vocals and brass exultation. The lyrics do well in projecting the trials and tribulations of day-to-day loneliness and obligations, though with a shimmer of optimism in the “I have to start something,” hook accompanied by the upbeat brass flourishes. This track plays like the antidote to a mid-week (or mid-life) funk. The bridge at 02:12 enchants with a nice piano glisten, before re-emerging with the perky brass and a bit of New Orleans swankiness at 02:30. Accompanied by a nice, apt music video, “Start Starting” is a chipper success.
