A gem from Lovechild’s forthcoming debut album, “Ocean Hill” is a timeless-sounding highlight that shows the NYC psychedelic/Americana five-piece as having heaps of promise, especially considering this track is their debut. The track title refers to the Brooklyn neighborhood, where frontman Leo Liebeskind’s girlfriend was living in 2015. The track’s lyrical content is gripping, chronicling the trials of youth in paying rent and finding a romantic solance — there’s a bit of Harry Chapin in the general approach. The instrumentation, with twangy guitars that flutter alongside keys and pick up to a psych-rock fervor in the second half, is captivating throughout. “Ocean Hill” is a stellar debut from Lovechild.
