“Mate in Check” is a very impressive debut nsingle from Los Angeles quartet Altar Egos. They combine “elements of pop, krautrock, shoegaze, and noise” for a sound that’s rich in atmosphere and psych-friendly vibes, with the soaring tendencies of early Tame Impala coming to mind, at least to start. Around the two-minute mark, the track brings forth a synth-laden soundscape with ample beauty, eventually accommodating for trickling guitars and powerful vocals. This is some soaring, memorable material — from an act with extremely strong audible chemistry, quite amazing considering that this gem of a track is their debut.
