Plutinos is the dreamy and melodic solo project of Nate Barnes, previously of the band Rose Hill Drive and drummer for acts like Ryan Bingham and Mary Chapin Carpenter. “Falling Away” is a great introduction to the project. Barnes’ vocals float unassumingly in a jangly haze during the verses, with a haunting backing vocal layer added during the hook. The tranquility of the guitar jangles and nonchalant vocals remind aesthetically of The Clientele, though with a more drawing dream-pop touch in the guitar reverb emerging around the two-minute mark. Barnes’ solo efforts certainly are something to keep an ear out for.
