Powerful vocals and a muscle-y guitar twang kicks off “Sounds of the Underground”, the latest from Vancouver’s Sleep Science. Fluid, brisk guitar and bass form a captivating bridge that aligns with an uptick in vocal intensity, whose slight quiver fits well within the alt-rock formula. The trio show a powerful hook as well in the chorus, the “silence! settle down!” bit emitting some great emotion in particular. This is a fun, energetic track that pays homage to the modern British rock scene and general alternative, with nice variation occurring in the guitar-based bridge right after the two-minute mark.
