“Riverrock Baby” is a slice of jangly psych-rock from Australian artist Lou Davies, who recorded his debut EP of the same name in his converted studio in Thornbury, Melbourne with producer/engineer Edward Lloyd (Jeffers Limit). The EP’s tracks were recorded over many lazy and hot afternoons, and you can almost hear the sweltering heat on this track, with a nonchalant vocal delivery and hazy guitar jangle making for a hypnotic and enthralling sound. The more high-pitched vocal lines show a Beatles influence, though in a way that’s steeped in modern power-pop and psych-rock, dreamy and melodically memorable. ’60s rock mingles with present-day psychedelia in Davies’ engaging sound, showing very nicely on this new track.
