Love Tapes is a newly created project of New Jersey-based Justin Lombardo, who sports a sound reminiscent of Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s fondness for funk-infused rock nonchalance. Lombardo, who plays everything on the track as well as recorded it himself, shows a real knack for melodic songwriting and multi-instrumental prowess here. There’s a perpetual psych and funk-friendly feel in the suave guitar tone, with static around 01:40 pinpointing a slow-down bridge that eventually kicks back into full gear for the conclusion. This is a hypnotic, funky, and contagious debut from the promising Love Tapes.
