Patchwork Guilt’s 2016 track “Gold Books” drew me to an impressive singer/songwriter with lofty potential, with Phoenix Mundy’s tendency for powerful ethereal vibes, playful ’80s-inspired synth tones, and hypnotic rhythms reminding me of Kate Bush. New track “Hello Sleep” shows the project dipping its feet into darker, more psych-friendly soundscapes. The impressive project’s best work to date, “Hello Sleep” develops beautifully, rising at 01:39, when the piano trickles, guitar distortion, and very bustling rhythm section (reminding of Radiohead) combines for a truly powerful experience. Patchwork Guilt continues to impress.
