NYC-based Charles Sekel fronts the project First Blush, which went on hiatus after 2013’s Supersynthetic EP but has since returned with the captivating album Monologic, which released on July 14th. Emotional key-laden melodies and mounting atmospheric textures are key features on new track “Dream”, which leads into a brooding chorus with melancholic psych-pop charm. The project’s lyrics focus frequently on themes of isolation and depression, relaying “the struggle to be optimistic while journeying through the darker corners of the psyche.” The dark, emotional tinge of rock displayed here reminds favorably of Belgian rockers dEUS. “Dream” is a powerful track” from the returning First Blush.
